Vickie Thomas

Vickie Thomas, City Beat Reporter for Audacy’s WWJ-AM (Detroit), has announced her retirement at the end of the month.  Her last day live on the air is scheduled for April 29.  She will continue to host the weekly “Black Business Minute” feature for the station.

Thomas tweeted on April 16, “After 30 years @WWJ950, I am #retiring but you’ll still be able to hear my #BlackBusinessMinute each week. It’s been an amazing ride working with the outstanding professionals at WWJ…the BEST news team around! I’ve truly been blessed!!”

Thomas is a 2019 inductee into the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame and serves as Treasurer of the Detroit chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists.

She grew up in Highland Park and became interested in journalism as a student at Detroit’s Henry Ford High School. Thomas graduated with honors from Wayne State University, where she focused on broadcast journalism. Since 1991, she has earned numerous awards for her work, plus a reputation among colleagues for her fairness, thoroughness and devotion to covering Detroit’s stories.
